GISF Engineering Pvt. Ltd. successfully contributed to one of Bihar’s most important bridge infrastructure projects — the MG Setu (Mahatma Gandhi Setu) Project. This iconic bridge plays a crucial role in improving road connectivity between Patna and Hajipur, significantly reducing travel time and supporting regional economic growth.
Certified by the Research Designs & Standards Organisation (RDSO), GISF is fully equipped to execute complex bridge fabrication works for large-scale infrastructure projects. The MG Setu project highlights GISF’s ability to handle heavy fabrication volumes, long-span bridge structures, and strict quality requirements essential for critical transportation links.
Afcons Infrastructure Limited
Afcons Infrastructure Limited, one of India’s leading EPC companies, awarded GISF Engineering the contract for fabrication and supply of steel structures for the MG Setu project. The collaboration reflects Afcons’ confidence in GISF’s engineering capabilities, quality systems, and experience in executing high-value bridge fabrication projects.
Mahatma Gandhi Setu
Patna – Hajipur, Bihar, India
The MG Setu is a vital transportation corridor connecting North and South Bihar across the River Ganga. Its upgradation and strengthening are essential for handling increasing traffic volumes and ensuring long-term structural safety.
GISF Engineering’s scope of work for the Afcon MG Setu project included:
Fabrication and supply of Open Web Girder (OWG) structures
Execution of fabrication as per RDSO-approved drawings and specifications
Manufacturing of long-span bridge girders with high dimensional accuracy
Welding, inspection, and quality control as per railway and bridge standards
Surface preparation and readiness for erection
GISF successfully fabricated and supplied over 8 spans of 123 meters each, contributing to a total steel fabrication volume of more than 5000 metric tonnes. These Open Web Girder bridges were designed to meet heavy load requirements while ensuring durability and structural stability.
Total Bridge Length: 5.75 kilometers
Steel Fabrication Supplied: 5000+ MT
Span Configuration: 8+ spans of 123 meters each
The MG Setu project plays a significant role in reducing congestion and travel time between Patna and Hajipur. The upgraded bridge infrastructure supports smoother traffic flow, improved safety, and enhanced connectivity for commuters and commercial vehicles.
All fabrication activities were carried out at GISF Engineering’s advanced manufacturing facility using CNC-controlled machinery, qualified welding procedures, and strict inspection protocols. Non-destructive testing (NDT), dimensional checks, and stage-wise quality inspections ensured compliance with RDSO and bridge engineering standards.
The project demanded precision, consistency, and large-scale production efficiency — all of which were successfully delivered by GISF’s experienced engineering and production teams.
