Nabha Power Limited – Rajpura Super Thermal Power Project

About this Project

GISF Engineering Pvt. Ltd. successfully executed a landmark environmental infrastructure project for the Rajpura Super Thermal Power Station, Punjab. The project involved the supply, manufacturing, and erection of wind shield structures, marking a major step toward pollution control and sustainable power generation practices in India.

The project was awarded by Nabha Power Limited, a subsidiary of L&T Power. This assignment stands out as a pioneering initiative, as it was the first-ever wind shield installation in India designed specifically to prevent air pollution in coal handling conveyor areas of a thermal power plant.

Client

Nabha Power Limited (NPL)

Nabha Power Limited, an L&T Group company, operates the Rajpura Super Thermal Power Station and is known for adopting advanced technologies to improve environmental performance. GISF Engineering was entrusted with this critical project due to its proven expertise in heavy structural fabrication and on-site erection capabilities.

Project Location

Rajpura Super Thermal Power Station
Rajpura, Punjab, India

The Rajpura Super Thermal Power Station is a key power generation facility supporting Punjab’s electricity requirements while implementing innovative measures to reduce environmental impact.

Scope of Work

GISF Engineering’s scope of work for the NPL Rajpura project included:

  • Manufacturing of wind shield steel structures

  • Supply of fabricated structural components

  • Erection of wind shields at the coal handling conveyor area

  • Fabrication as per approved engineering drawings and standards

  • Quality inspection and on-site execution

GISF successfully supplied and erected over 800 metric tonnes of steel structural components for the wind shield system. These structures were designed to minimize dust dispersion caused by wind movement in coal handling areas, thereby significantly reducing air pollution.

Project Scale & Environmental Impact

  • Power Capacity: 2 × 700 MW (Coal-Based)

  • Steel Supplied & Erected: 800+ MT

  • Application Area: Coal handling conveyor zone

This project was a first-of-its-kind environmental solution in India’s thermal power sector. The wind shield installation plays a crucial role in controlling fugitive dust emissions, improving air quality within and around the power plant, and enhancing worker safety and environmental compliance.

Engineering Excellence & Execution

All wind shield components were fabricated at GISF Engineering’s advanced manufacturing facility using high-quality steel, precision cutting, and controlled welding processes. The project also involved on-site erection, requiring careful coordination, safety compliance, and adherence to strict timelines.

GISF’s engineering and site teams ensured seamless integration of the wind shield structures with existing coal handling systems without disrupting plant operations.

Key Highlights

  • India’s first wind shield installation for pollution control in a thermal power plant

  • Supply and erection of 800+ MT of steel structures

  • Contribution to environmental protection and air pollution control

  • Execution for a 2 × 700 MW super thermal power project

  • Strengthened GISF’s portfolio in power sector environmental infrastructure

Conclusion

The Nabha Power Limited – Rajpura Super Thermal Power Project marks a historic achievement for GISF Engineering Pvt. Ltd. By delivering India’s first wind shield system for a coal-based power plant, GISF demonstrated its ability to combine engineering excellence with environmental responsibility. The project reinforces GISF’s position as a trusted partner for innovative, sustainable, and large-scale power infrastructure solutions across India.
