L&T Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor

About this Project

GISF Engineering Pvt. Ltd. successfully executed a major bridge fabrication assignment for the Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor (EDFC), one of India’s most ambitious railway infrastructure projects aimed at strengthening freight transportation across the country. The project demonstrates GISF’s technical expertise, large-scale fabrication capacity, and ability to meet the stringent standards required for critical railway infrastructure.

Certified by the Research Designs & Standards Organisation (RDSO), GISF is well-equipped to perform complex bridge fabrication works for both Indian Railways and Dedicated Freight Corridor projects. This certification ensures compliance with approved railway designs, welding procedures, inspection standards, and quality assurance protocols.

Client

L&T Heavy Civil Infrastructure Limited

L&T Heavy Civil Infrastructure Limited, a key arm of Larsen & Toubro, is renowned for executing large and complex civil engineering projects across India. GISF Engineering was awarded the contract for fabrication, supply, and trial assembly of critical bridge components for the Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor, reflecting L&T’s trust in GISF’s manufacturing quality and engineering capabilities.

Project Location

Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor
Stretch: Pilkhani to Khurja, Uttar Pradesh, India

This section of the Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor is strategically important for high-capacity freight movement and requires heavy-duty bridge structures capable of carrying ballasted railway tracks under high axle loads.

Scope of Work

The scope of work entrusted to GISF Engineering included:

  • Fabrication of Ballasted Track Open Web Girders (OWG)

  • Supply and trial assembly of large-span steel bridges

  • Execution as per RDSO-approved drawings and standards

  • Precision fabrication, welding, and dimensional control

  • Quality inspection, surface preparation, and dispatch

GISF fabricated and supplied three spans of 95.28 meters each, resulting in a total steel fabrication volume of over 3000 metric tonnes. These Open Web Girder bridges were designed to support heavy freight railway loads with enhanced stability and durability.

Project Timeline

  • Project Execution Period: 2019 – 2020 (approx.)

The project was executed within the committed schedule, highlighting GISF’s capability to manage high-volume fabrication while maintaining consistent quality and delivery timelines.

Engineering Excellence & Quality Assurance

All fabrication activities were carried out at GISF’s advanced manufacturing facility using CNC-controlled machines, automated welding systems, and strict quality control measures. The project followed RDSO norms for material selection, welding procedures, non-destructive testing (NDT), and dimensional accuracy.

Trial assembly was conducted to ensure perfect alignment and fitment of all bridge components before dispatch, minimizing site-level challenges and ensuring smooth erection at the project location.

Key Project Highlights

  • Fabrication of large-span OWG railway bridges

  • Over 3000 MT of steel fabricated and supplied

  • Execution for a national-level freight corridor project

  • Compliance with RDSO and railway standards

  • Successful collaboration with a leading EPC contractor

Conclusion

The L&T Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor Project stands as a landmark achievement in GISF Engineering Pvt. Ltd.’s portfolio of railway and infrastructure projects. By delivering heavy fabricated Open Web Girders with precision, quality, and reliability, GISF reinforced its position as a trusted fabrication partner for high-value railway infrastructure across India. The project reflects GISF’s commitment to engineering excellence, safety, and long-term performance.
